Finasteride may curb taste for alcohol

A preliminary research at Washington University has shown that Finasteride when used in patients for male pattern hair loss also led to loss of taste for alcohol.

As per the study published in Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research; two-thirds of 63 men who had at least one alcoholic beverage a week before starting Finasteride said they drank less after stopping the drug.

The mean number of drinks they consumed in a week dropped from five to two.

The findings are consistent with literature in rodents in which finasteride was shown to reduce alcohol intake and suppress alcohol intake.

Finasteride blocks pathways that are important for the biosynthesis of allopregnanolone.

In both humans and rodents, ethanol consumption increases production of allopregnanolone.

Studies have shown that rats given Finasteride for a week lose interest in alcohol.

At higher doses, finasteride is used in prostate hypertrophy.

sprritual blog Can I postpone death?

Yes. If I read Vedic science, it is possible to postpone death. As per Chandoghya Upanishad, death is a process in which first Karma Indriyas die, then Gnan Indriyas die followed by mind, intellect, memory, ego and then Prana vayu merges with Udana vayu, which merges with Tejas. Finally, Tejas leave to merge with the Sat. That means at every step it is possible to help the body.

• At the level of Karma Indriyas, the immunity can be strengthened by providing adequate fat and oil based nutrition to the dying person.
• Karma Indriyas, mind, intellect, memory and ego can be strengthened by giving non-fat based earthy food to the dying person that means maintaining full calories. ...Read More

Delhi Medical Council rejects Ministry of Health proposal for registering Ayush doctors under Delhi Medical Council

In a letter written to Principal Secretary, Government of Delhi dated 19.06.2013, Delhi Medical Council has totally rejected the Ministry of Health, Government of India proposal to amend the Delhi Medical Council Act and allow registration of Ayush doctors in DMC so that they can start limited allopathy practice.

Tamil Nadu Medical Council and Punjab Medical Council have also similarly rejected this proposal and written to the Ministry of Health as well as Medical Council of India. Tamil Nadu Medical Council has even gone to the court in this regard.

Delhi Medical Council says that the provisions of Medical Council of India as well as Delhi Medical Council Act cannot permit doctors from other systems of medicines to register with State Medical Council. The Council also cited two judgments - one, Punam Verma vs Ashwin Patel and the other, Dr. Mukhtar Chand & Ors vs State of Punjab in clarifying its position. The Council said that the aforesaid proposal is in violation of the legal provisions clarified or laid down by the Supreme Court of India in Dr. Mukhtar Chand judgment. In Punam Verma case also, the Supreme Court of India said that the person who does not have knowledge of a particular system of medicine and practices in that is quack.

The Council also cited Supreme Court of India judgment in Martin S D’Souza Vs Ishfar where it was held that professional may be held liable for negligence on the ground that he did not possess the requisite skill.

Infertility Update (Dr Kaberi Banerjee, IVF expert, New Delhi)

What is surgical sperm retrieval?

Sperms are usually present in the reproductive tract of spinal cord-injured men. Microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA), percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA), testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and percutaneous testicular sperm aspiration are examples of techniques that are used for men with acquired or congenital obstructions along their reproductive tract. Compared to MESA and TESE, the percutaneous methods have the advantage of not requiring an incision into the scrotum; however, MESA is the technique with the lowest amount of contamination with blood cells, and the method that is most likely to obtain sufficient amounts of fluid for immediate use with ICSI as well as for sperm cryopreservation.

An Inspirational Story

Do not interfere in others’ business unless asked

Most of us create our own problems by interfering too often in others’ affairs. We do so because somehow we have convinced ourselves that our way is the best way, our logic is the perfect logic and those who do not conform to our thinking must be criticized and steered to the right direction, our direction. This thinking denies the existence of individuality and consequently the existence of God. God has created each one of us in a unique way. No two human beings can think or act in exactly the same way. All men or women act the way they do because God within them prompts them ............Read More
